St John of God Dementia Care at Saint Joseph's

About us

St John of God dementia care at Saint Joseph’s is a residential home for 61 people living with varying types and at various stages of dementia.  We are the only dementia specific home in Ireland of this size. It also provides respite care and has a day care centre – or the CLUB as it is now known.

Saint Joseph’s was purpose built for frail older people in 1994 but from around 2010 it became more and more for people with dementia and now a person must have a formal diagnosis of dementia to live there.

We changed the open plan centre into 6 houses / homes.

This new approach involved a major culture change and we adopted the Meaningful Care Matters; Butterfly Approach. Find out what a Butterfly Home is all about HERE.

Being Person centred is not something we do but something we feel. It becomes second nature, it is not something you can switch on and off.

Our Dementia Specific Person Centred Care focuses on the social, emotional, pyschological and physical needs of people living with dementia, in a real home environment, where their feelings matter most.  Take a glimpse of our way of life here.
